Broadband diffusion dynamics: a systemic analysis

نویسنده

  • Enrico Ferro
چکیده

The paper analyses broadband diffusion from a multitude of angles. The main objective of the analysis is thus to investigate the reasons behind an adoption delay present in certain Southern European countries. The paper presents the situation of an Italian region named Piedmont. Results show that a lack of de facto competition, together with an immature level of Internet usage, is the main cause of the adoption delay. Findings also suggest that the creation of policies aimed at fostering the use of telework could contribute to increasing bandwidth needs for different users’ categories, thus accelerating the diffusion process.

The Effects of Broadband Infrastructure on Economic Growth in Developing Countries

In this paper we investigate the effects of broadband infrastructure providing high speed internet, on economic growth in developing countries. We have used two different broadband measures to classify developing countries into two groups for the period 1999-2008. By using logistic diffusion model and IV approach, a nonlinear diffusion model is specified. Differences in ceiling of diffusion cur...

Accurate optical parameter extraction procedure for broadband near-infrared spectroscopy of brain matter.

Modeling behavior of broadband (30 to 1000 MHz) frequency modulated near-infrared (NIR) photons through a phantom is the basis for accurate extraction of optical absorption and scattering parameters of biological turbid media. Photon dynamics in a phantom are predicted using both analytical and numerical simulation and are related to the measured insertion loss (IL) and insertion phase (IP) for...

An empirical analysis of fixed and mobile broadband diffusion

Broadband communications lie at the heart of the developing information society. Employing a logistic diffusion model, we analyze the factors that influence the diffusion of fixed and mobile broadband. For fixed broadband diffusion, we find that local loop unbundling, income, population density, education, and price are significant factors of fixed broadband diffusion. For mobile broadband, mul...

A Cross-Country Analysis of Fixed Broadband Deployment: Examination of Adoption Factors and Network Effect*

Broadband infrastructure is a key component of the knowledge economy. Employing a secondary data set, this study examines adoption factors of fixed broadband among OECD countries. The result of the regression analysis suggests platform competition, income, and education positively influence fixed broadband diffusion. Light form of Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) was positively associated with high ...

Dynamics analysis of microparticles in inertial microfluidics for biomedical applications

Inertial microfluidics-based devices have recently attracted much interest and attention due to their simple structure, high throughput, fast processing and low cost. They have been utilised in a wide range of applications in microtechnology, especially for sorting and separating microparticles. This novel class of microfluidics-based devices works based on intrinsic forces, which cause micropa...
